Electronic travel authorisation for the UK, Canada, New Zealand – and soon ETIAS.
What it is
UK ETA: £20, 2 years, mandatory for all visa-free travellers incl. EU since 2 April 2025, via the 'UK ETA' app. Canada eTA: CAD 7, 5 years, air travel only. New Zealand NZeTA: NZD 17 (app) / NZD 23 (web) + NZD 100 International Visitor Levy, 2 years. EU ETIAS: €20, 3 years, launch for Schengen expected late 2026 – affects Britons, Americans, Ukrainians and all visa-free third-country nationals.
Common mistakes
Applying on fake intermediary sites charging €80–120; wrong passport number; applying with the old passport after renewal (the ETA is tied to the passport); assuming a German residence permit is enough – for the UK, Canada and New Zealand nationality counts.
