Who needs a visa?
German and EU citizens: eTA (CAD 7) for air travel, up to 6 months. Citizens of Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey: Visitor Visa (TRV). Ukrainians under CUAET have their own rules. A German residence permit does not replace a Canadian visa.
Fees and processing time
Visitor Visa CAD 100 + biometrics CAD 85; Study Permit CAD 150; Work Permit CAD 155 + CAD 100 open work permit holder fee; eTA CAD 7. Processing of a Visitor Visa from Germany currently about 3–6 weeks, Study Permit 8–12 weeks, Work Permit 8–16 weeks (IRCC publishes times weekly).
Where to apply?
Online via the IRCC portal, then biometrics at the VAC (VFS Global) in Berlin or Düsseldorf. After approval the passport is sent to the VAC for the visa to be affixed.

Common mistakes
Purpose 'visit' stated but CV and account suggest emigration – refusal for 'purpose of visit'; funds shown only as a balance without origin; trying eTA instead of TRV; missed biometrics appointment (application expires after 30 days).
